Ayala Land partners with Samsung to bring Makati’s Samsung Performing Arts Theater

by Samsung Performing Arts Team

The Ayala group of companies have always believed in a community where its citizens are creative and culturally productive, making them proud self-reliant Filipinos. It can be said that the most deliberate way of imbuing arts in the daily lives of Filipinos is done by Ayala Land through its Estates. This is of course no more apparent than through ALI’s flagship estate of Makati Central Business District (MCBD).

With arts and entertainment being a key component to solidify Makati’s status as the city that celebrates creativity, ALI announced plans in 2013 to convert the old Sta. Ana race track into what is now known as Circuit Makati - the arts and entertainment district of Makati.

In addition to several visual and public art installations that can be seen in every corner of the city, as well as various venues and spaces that provide a home for different forms of arts, a central district will now provide a multitude of artistic and entertainment options giving a new definition to arts, culture, and entertainment for all.

With its intent on family focused entertainment this exciting township development has launched several projects that very well positions itself as the center of arts and culture in the city. Despite all of the exciting ventures, ALI recognized the need for a singular performing arts venue that can anchor the district.

ALI also realized that it has to be large enough to serve world-class productions and provide a home for the global Filipino talent. ALI then partnered with Samsung, one of the global leaders in innovation and technology, and the Samsung Performing Arts Theater was born. Designed by US-based consultants, Theatre Projects Consultants, and experts on sound design, Akustiks, in partnership with GF & Partners Architects and world-renowned architects from Callison RTKL, the Samsung Performing Arts Theater is a 1,500-seater landmark facility built to celebrate artistry at its finest, nurtures promising local artists, and promotes accessibility of the performing arts to all.

A world-class venue where artistry and innovation meet – Ayala Land is proud to partner with Samsung in naming its new performing arts center as the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.

Auditorium Artist’s Perspective, Samsung Performing Arts Theater

Samsung and Ayala Land have joined forces in creating this iconic project in 2016 and construction commenced that same year. Samsung, despite being known more for its technological design and advancement, has participated in several art initiatives in the past, most notable of which include the launch of its collaborative arts app PENUP and its highly acclaimed exhibit featuring National Artist Bencab to celebrate 50 years of his art. In addition, Samsung is also known to have supported several performing arts venues all over the world.

Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, both Ayala Land and Samsung are optimistic that the completion of this theater can bring hope, especially to the performing arts industry – the group that is most affected by the pandemic. The Samsung Performing Arts Theater is a symbol that the performing arts scene in the Philippines can and will remain alive, and will continue to be supported by many.

Indeed, something extraordinary will be coming your way soon. For more information and updates on the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, visit its website at samsungperformingartstheater.com or follow its social media pages at @CPAT_Official to learn more.
